First I must say I have no interest in any of these products except as a satisfied customer and will not profit from any sales of these items. They are mentioned here to make others aware of  them and for no other reason.
I recommend them for your machine applique work because they have worked well for me.
scissors

These little scissors can be found at your local New Home Dealer. They are wonderful for trimming the applique fabrics when applying them to your projects. I purchase them for $5. a pair. Do not trim your nails with them.... I know!

Steam-A-Seam 2
This is a rather new product made by the WARM COMPANY. You can find it here . It is a remarkable product.
Besure to read the manufactor's instructions to understand how this product works first.
To use it with my appliques: Cut the applique fabric to size needed. Then cut a piece of Steam-A-Seam 2 the same size. Next peel the paper from one side and stick it to the wrong side of the applique fabric. Place this in position on the project (stick it lightly so it can easily be trimmed away) at the appropriate time and sew. When the machine stops and it is time to trim the fabric away just trim the Steam-A-Seam 2 right with it. Next press (see below) with an iron and continue as usual.

This little Clover Mini Iron is very handy for this technique also. You can read more about it  here .
Keep it by your machine and use it to press the applique parts when needed. I found it to be a neat little tool. I use a  potholder I made that has a piece of an ironing board cover on one side that  I told you about in previous instructions. It makes a neat little ironing pad for your little mini iron.
