Roses the symbol of love.
This is the edge I used on my Rose plate mats. I made these
mats with the idea in mind I could use them at Valentine's Day or Mother's
day. I will use a bouquet of red roses as my center piece. You will find
the rose applique in my Assorted 1 collection and the plate mat instructions
are listed under Instructions. On this page you can learn how I made the
Prairie Point edge.

For this edging I suggest you use an
extra layer of padding before quilting your mat This will make the mat a
little heavier and have a more stablized edge. I used one thickness of the
cotton quilt batt and one layer of an old felt type blanket I found at the
thrift store. Do not choose a real fluffy type blanket or one with color
that will show through. Mine was a solid white and I cut 16 mats from it.
;-)
I cut 30-31 2 1/2 inch squares of the red dotted fabric for each mat. Fold
each in half diagonally and then fold again to form the prarie points. Pin
them to the edge allowing them to overlap about a half inch. Machine baste.

I cut a piece of bias strip 3 inches
wide of my green check. This needed to be a little wider for the extra thickness
of these mats. Press these strips in half lengthwise, pin it all around like
I illustrated in the plate mat tutorial. Sew it down using the 3/8 inch seam.Trim
off and excess being careful not to trim the mat.
All that is needed now is a good show on TV, an easy chair, your thimble,
thread and a needle and you can enjoy an evening in the livingroom with the
family whip stitching the binding to the back of the mat by hand. I love a
few jobs like this.

If you have enjoyed these instructions and would like to see more, please,
take a few moments to let me know. This will motivate me to make more pages
to give you ideas and help. Better yet, order some of my designs. Without
this support I can not continue. Your order would be greatly appreciated.
